Want to be featured on our Instagram?
We are always looking for handmade businesses to feature on our Instagram account. One of our favorite things is looking through all of the wonderful feature applications that we receive! It is amazing how many talented makers there are. With the influx of applications, we have to be selective of who we feature. We want to give you an idea of what we look for when picking new features.
Below are 3 things to keep in mind when applying for a Handmade Loves Instagram feature!
#1. Skill
We take pride in the incredible talent that our feed and features showcase. We accept applicants whose skill is clearly displayed in their craft, feed, and brand.
We look for a certain level of creativity, expertise, and functionality in our applicants, so that we can guarantee the small businesses and products we are sharing are not only special, but also high quality.
There are many makers whose passions are their craft, and there are some who happened to be naturally crafty. We want to share the best of the best. We are looking for those makers who not only have the aforementioned qualities, but who clearly embody the essence, skill, and love that their small business represents.
#2. Aesthetics
Our absolute favorite vendors are those who do not just create to sell, but those who take great pride in their craft.
Knowing what is beautiful, what is different, and what is wanted are all key elements when determining feature posts.
It is so clear when we come across an applicant who understands of the beauty in their craft. It takes their products to a whole new level. Talent and skill are important, but aesthetics separate the good from the wonderful.
#3. Photography
We talk about the importance of photography a lot. In the competitive digital world of e-commerce, strong product representation is what will either encourage or discourage sales, followers, and collaborations.
As a maker, you must portray your art in a manner that does your talent and efforts justice. Do not simply just snap a shot and post it. Really think about every element involved.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
Is the lighting in this room showcasing the colors best?
Does this photograph show off the functionality and quality of my product?
Would I look at this picture and say, “I need that”?
