Hi there! I’m Deanna Talwalkar, the maker behind Mirabelle Creations, a customized, thoughtful paper design company that helps you create beauty in every day! I design modern, colorful paper products and gifts, such as custom art for the home, monogrammed stationery, and personalized invitations and announcements.
I am a Kentucky girl and have lived in the South my entire life. I can’t imagine living anywhere else! Southern hospitality and sweet tea were present at all of my childhood events. My most memorable childhood celebrations are those that included my Grandma Fan’s famous red velvet cake. I attended law school in Atlanta and returned to Kentucky shortly after to practice law. After having children, I took a break from my legal career to stay at home with them. As my children celebrated their birthdays, I realized how difficult it was to find unique, customized party goods and paper goods. In response, I started Mirabelle Creations as a way to share personalized, thoughtful designs to help others celebrate life’s special occasions.
In order to create custom stationery, I taught myself graphic design and Adobe Illustrator using graphic design books and YouTube videos. Like many other makers, I opened an Etsy Shop. It took a few months for many order to start coming in, but the Shop slowly grew. As the business continued to grow, customers started requesting unique, custom art pieces for their home. I added custom art pieces to my Etsy Shop and that side of my business took off.
Our line of watercolor State Pride Prints was one of my favorite collections to design from start to finish. They started as hand painted watercolor backgrounds, then state silhouettes and state song titles were added to each state. In the last year, I began selling these prints and other art prints at local makers markets. Participating in these pop up shops and markets has been such a fantastic way to get more input and feedback from customers. It’s also allowed me to meet some of the most wonderful people!
As my business evolves, I have added many hand lettered goods to our Shop. Learning to hand letter has been a challenging, yet such an exciting process. Currently, I am in the process of creating an online course that will teach hand letterers to brand, digitize their designs, open a shop and market their hand lettered art. I’ve made so many mistakes and learned so much about running a handmade business over the last few years. And, I can’t wait to other handmade makers succeed in their business, too!
