At this time of year, you’re working hard to make those lists and check them twice so you get just the right gift for those special people in your life! We plan ahead for things like ‘how to beat the holiday rush’ or ‘hot new items at bargain prices’, but there’s that one little detail that sometimes gets forgotten until the last second…
gift wrap!
I’m definitely guilty of forgetting to wrap some of the gifts until the morning of, then frantically trying to piece together leftover wrapping paper to cover the enormous box that had been hiding in my closet. Wrapping those last-minute surprises in the privacy of my bathroom, while trying to pacify a curious preschooler, and making sure that the Christmas morning breakfast doesn’t burn is a sure recipe for disaster. (And yes, that’s been me, more times than I care to admit!)
With a few fun, modern gift wrap tips, you’re going to enjoy it so much that you won’t want to leave it for last!
1. The Box
What you need:
1. cute wrapping paper with a bold print
2. a box that fits your gift
3. large bow (I made mine out of tulle.)
4. some fancy trim
5. a flat ornament that will sit well on top of the gift
6. a gift (For this example I’m going to use a wool cowl from my shop.)
7. tape
Wrap that box up with the adorable wrapping paper that you picked out! If you go to a craft store during Christmas time, the selection of colors, prints and patterns are almost overwhelming! Pick one that’s going to make the bow and ornament stand out. I love this polka dot pattern, because even though it’s a fun, bold pattern, the simplicity of the black and white helps to keep the emphasis on the cute gold ornament.
Take your fancy trim and cut two pieces to tape in a ‘criss cross’ on your gift. I only taped it at the top, because the bow is going to hide my tacky tape job. Haha.
This last part is so exciting! Tie or tape the ornament and bow in place! With just a couple of special touches, you now have a gorgeous, store display-worthy gift!
2. The Bag
What you need:
1. a simple gift bag
2. bright colored ribbon
3. tissue paper
4. a gift (And yes… my kiddo wants candy canes for Christmas.)
This gift wrap technique is so simple, but it really makes a plain paper sack look so pretty! All you’re going to need to do is, cut a long enough piece of ribbon to tie a bow, and tie the ornament in with the ribbon! That’s it!
Once that’s done, fill the bag with your gift, pop the tissue paper in the top and voilà!
3. The Small Gift
What you need:
1. three yarn pom-poms
2. colorful tissue paper
3. extra yarn
4. small gift (In this case I used a small jar candle.)
I love using this method for those ‘I thought of you’ gifts… The gifts that mean a lot but are a little small for a bag or a box.
Because this candle was pretty tiny, I folded a single piece of tissue paper in half. I then put the candle in the center of the folded tissue paper, gathered up the ends of the paper at the top (like a sack), and used a piece of yarn to tie it in place.
You can then add your pom-poms by tying them down with the ends of the yarn you initially used to tie the top of your tissue paper sack. Once everything is tied in place, trim any excess yarn and you’re all set!
Pretty simple, right?
But a few special touches really goes a long way! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a stress-free gift wrapping session!
Much Love,
Julie
