Today's topic: letting your true voice shine through.
There is so much talk about “having a voice” on social media. However, many people are afraid to reveal their true selves. They hide behind their brand or craft rather than making themselves and their stories stand out. Are you one of these people? If so, my advice to you is to STOP THAT CRAZY THINKING! The brands and accounts that do well on social media are those who decide to showcase exactly who they are. Aren’t those the ones you choose to follow?
The most important element to building a recognizable brand on social media is: uniqueness. The saying, “Be yourself because no one else can be you,” is so applicable to digital marketing. Be goofy. Be quirky. Use that “maybe not so funny, and oh so corny” joke as your caption. Add in an extra hashtag. Just go for it!
Of course, there are “rules” and “guidelines” to follow about professionalism. You want to remain a credible source in your niche. But, in life, we have figured out how to follow these standards and still be viewed as individuals. You can do the same thing in the social media world.
There are endless numbers of accounts, profiles, and shops on social media. Allow yourself the chance to stand out in the crowd by exemplifying what makes you and your craft unique. As a curator of handmade goods, I am proud of each of you. You should be proud, too.
The essence of branding is truth. Be true to your voice. I promise you’ll be heard.
