It’s Easter morning in our house and my 2-year-old, Ada, can’t wait to go downstairs and see what the Easter Bunny has brought her. But first, she needs to find Bunny and bring her along. Although it was a special holiday, this has been the typical scenario in our household for the past few weeks. Ada and Bunny. Bunny and Ada. By now, I have figured out I need to make sure to know where her new bunny is at all times to avoid unwanted meltdowns!
Yep, that’s right. All Instagram features are free for the next two weeks! Why? We want to celebrate and honor our amazing community of makers. Also, are super excited to have a “mini” re-launch of our website. Over the past few months, things have been shifting and want to maximize the ways we can help handmade artisans. We are fully committed to the maker movement and have a great desire to help makers, like you.
So, thank you for all that you do. Thank you for bringing awareness to small businesses, shopping small, and for your never ceasing creativity. It is inspiring, to say the least. We hope you enjoy this little token of gratitude. It’s just the beginning for us. We are looking forward to releasing more ways that help support and grow your passions in the coming months!

In an age where everything around us beeps and lights up, I have to make a conscious effort to provide my daughter with toys and experiences that are basic, not battery operated and don’t have a screen. There is so much research out there that explains the importance of limiting screen time and getting back to the basics with toys. So, I was so excited to receive a package from Hope Learning Toys for my daughter.
I want to give you a little background about Heather, the founder and creator of Hope Learning Toys because this is what makes her products so spot-on and so much more than just toys.
Heather was an elementary educator for ten years with a passion for literacy development. The decision to become a stay at home mother allowed her the time to create unique sensory learning products. The mission of Hope Learning Toys is to nurture children’s curiosity and cultivate a love of learning.
Ever let the stress of running a business get the best of you? As small business owners, we are constantly pulled in several directions. If things are not kept in perspective, it can become overwhelming very quickly.
As you may or may not know, Handmade Loves is going through a huge growth spurt and we are going to be offering a variety of new (and free) resources for makers. In preparing for the changes, I was becoming more and more stressed. Then it dawned on me. I have been setting false deadlines. Of course, I want to keep things moving, but I had to step back and realize: I’m just one person. No one is expecting me to get things done today. I was putting pressure on myself.
Always in search of ways to remain calm, happy, and healthy, I found these strategies helpful:
Essentially, branding tells your story and helps elevate your products. It shows your customer who you are and what you do. It gives your products a cohesive look and feel. It can be one of the most important aspects of your handmade business.
These are my top three tips for creating a strong brand.
Why are the holidays an optimal time of year to market your brand? The holidays embody thankfulness, reconnecting, and giving. These virtues also lend themselves to great business principles.
